This is me: What I Bring to the Table

As a life long learner and servant leader, each of my professional experiences has been an opportunity to grow and shape my worldview. My resilience, rigor, diplomacy, and attention to detail makes me adaptable, well-organized, and an open-minded self-starter that thrives in collaborative and multicultural spaces.

With grace, grit, and gratitude, I am always eager to embark on diverse opportunities to  challenge myself  to address complex global challenges and influence positive social behavior.

No matter the role or project, I’m confident in the mixed skill set I bring to the table.

I am at my best, and certainly most fulfilled, when I am pushed
beyond my comfort zone
to effectively, resiliently, and strategically improve the livelihoods of others.

With a knack for creative storytelling, a tenacity for in-depth research, a flair for innovative branding, and an unwavering passion for exploring the social, economic, and cultural facets of inequality, I have nearly a decade of experience in sustainable development, behavioral-change communications, food security, agriculture, poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and NGO sectors in sub-Saharan Africa and North America. I'm committed to enhancing social innovation and sustainable development through human-centered design, community engagement, and strength-based approaches to capacity building.

What motivates me each morning is the possibility to facilitate the enhancement of livelihoods by tailoring content to suit diverse audiences.

Vanessa Mukhebi represents the very best of the next generation of Africa's activist scholars, and leading voices on African youth and agriculture. She brings to her research a passion and a commitment to improving African lives that is unparalleled. Her research and work interests are at a fascinating intersection of food, agriculture, media, and anthropology. She has worked at Mediae, producers of award winning farming show Shamba Shape -Up.  During her time at Mediae she worked with an international team to help develop and pilot Don't Lose the Plot, a reality competition for young agripreneurs in East Africa. Vanessa's work there, evidence of her determination, creativity, professionalism and humility, contributed greatly to bridging the gap between African youth and financial inclusion. She also has tremendous powers of persuasion. Her TEDx talk sharing her personal story and relevant data on why Africa's youth should embrace agriculture is evidence of her ability to connect the dots from the personal to the structural around issues that she cares about. While her interests are rooted in African realities, Vanessa's work and experiences are truly global with an international education and global social media presence showcasing her interest and talent for producing nutritious yet culturally viable food.

Words That Resonate With Me

"Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don’t stop. Start where you are, with what you have. Just... start.”
